This is the first part in a series of blog posts where I will cover search engine optimization and other related internet marketing  topics. In this post, I’ll start the series by talking about keyword stuffing, and how this can negatively affect your website rankings.

An optimized search engine optimization (SEO) strategy is very much the same as a healthy lifestyle. By being healthy, you employ a balance of nutrition, activity and you are avoiding harmful factors such as stress.  There’s really no magic “blue” pill or a quick fix that will help you reach good health.  The same goes with an optimized SEO strategy.  Keyword stuffing is one of those “bad” ways that are very easily detected by search engines and it can have a huge impact on the health of your website.

What is keyword stuffing?

Keyword stuffing is an old “black hat” method that tries to trick the search engines into giving a website higher rankings. It usually involves the adding of unnecessary “meta keywords” or overloading keywords in the content of a page.

Typically, website pages that are “keyword stuffed” are long lists of keywords in the content of the page and in the meta tags to create a certain “keyword density”. This method is really outdated and adds no value to the visitor of that website page.  Google does not give good rankings to websites employing this outdated technique. Keyword stuff is not a healthy technique as Google won’t give you any rankings if you are practicing this method.

To create a healthy website that provides your visitors with good content that they will find interesting, try the following formula to increase the number of visitors to your website.

Optimized formula

Keywords:  Always find the most relevant and right keywords and keyword phrases that your targeted visitors are searching for.

Content: When you have found the keywords you will be targeting, use these in the content of your website pages.  Keywords should be used naturally in links, titles, headings and in the content of the page. Regularly add interesting, new content on your website that will give people a reason to return to your website.

Linking: People will link to information and facts that they find relevant and interesting. Try adding a blog to your website to help you with the engagement of your visitors, and to publish and spread new content.
